waist training over history

Mandy Barrington is a Senior Lecturer in Costume and Performance Design at Arts University Bournemouth. Her book “Historical Stays and Corsets: Patterns Translated for the Modern Body”, is being published by Focal Press and will be released in July 2015. Get Waisted joined Mandy for a drink in the Bournemouth Arts University bar to chat about the history of the corset and in particular how even in the 18th and 19th centuries, women’s fashion was a case of women wanting to look like the most popular women. This ties similarly to the waist training trend we saw once Kim Kardashian shared Instagram photos of herself in a cincher, except in this case – the trend was spread via journals instead of selfies.
